Calculations of the Cross Sections for the Neutron Acceleration, Slowing Down, and Capture by the Isomer 180mHf

Abstract

The cross sections for inelastic acceleration, slowing down, and capture are calculated for the isomer 180mHf in the energy range of the incoming neutron from 1 keV to 5 MeV. Below 0.7 MeV the energy transferred to the neutron in the collision is positive on the average, i.e., the isomer is acting as a "neutron accelerator".
